UL Housing Action Group call for change – join the protest on October 10
The UL Housing Action Group (HAG) has called for a protest on Thursday, October 10 at 12pm at the Plaza near the Brown Thomas statue.
The group is aiming to make their voice heard to demand change in the face of UL’s housing crisis.
HAG (Housing Action Group) has drawn attention to the last major housing development at UL which took place in 2006 — that’s 18 years ago. Since then, the university’s population has nearly doubled, but housing availability has not kept up.
Kasper Domagala, a member of the Student Housing Action Group, shared their dissatisfaction with UL’s complacency.
“Our goal for this demonstration is to gather a large mass, voice the discontent of the student body widely and to make our demands clear,” Domagala stated.
Key Demands
The group is making the following demands from the university:
- A detailed housing action plan by the end of 2025. Students want a firm commitment from UL on addressing the current accommodation crisis and ensuring future housing capacity for an expanding student body.
- Immediate transparency, accountability, and democratic decision-making with a strong student representative voice in any decisions undertaken by the university.
- A written apology and admission of fault from the administrators of the university to the student body regarding their gross negligence and inaction regarding the worsening student situation and the misery caused by it.
The protest will provide information through leaflets, sign-up sheets with QR codes, and conducting vox pops to gather student opinions on the housing issue.
HAG is calling on all students to unite in demanding better housing conditions, not just for today’s students but also for future generations.
Join the movement on Thursday, October 10 at 12pm at the Plaza near the Brown Thomas statue and stand with HAG to ensure that UL’s housing crisis is addressed.
