General Election: Maurice Quinlivan elected after thirteenth count

Scenes of relief as Quinlivan's election is announced

The results of thirteenth count have been announced in Limerick city just before half six this evening.

Sinn Féin’s Maurice Quinlivan has been elected after receiving 851 votes, he received 9,236 votes in total, taking Limerick City’s third seat in the Dáil.

Quinlivan spoke to the Limerick Voice: “I’m really humbled and delighted. I just want to thank all the people who worked on my campaign, my family, my friends, my party members.”

“This was a historical election. It was the lowest vote that Fianna Fáil and Fianna Gael ever got across the state, we can build on that.”

The battle for the fourth and final seat is still well under way between the last three candidates. Conor Sheehan (LAB) is still leading the race with 4,631 votes. Elisa O’Donovan (SD) has 4,550 votes followed by Dee Ryan (FF) with 4,346 votes.
