ELECTION 2024: RESIDENTS OF LIMERICK VOICE CONCERNS AS ELECTION LOOMS
The general election is now approaching after the leaders of the Coalition government confirmed the general election will take place in 2024. Currently there is no official date, but it is estimated to take place on Friday, November 29.
All speakers, except one, were unaware the government confirmed the election would take place in 2024. What do people want addressed?
One voter discussed the growing division the government is creating amongst Irish citizens. “The fact that they’re pitting everyone against each other is a very dangerous road that we’re going down because we’re all fighting for the resources. There’s not enough.
“Their actions and their words don’t align. I’m in my 40s. I came back with what I thought was a down payment for a house. I’m now living in my childhood bedroom with my elderly parents.”
Housing continued to be a concern, stated by two UL students. “I think it’s driving young people out. After you finish your degree, where are we all going to live? Are we going to stay with our parents forever?”
A business student commented on the rising cost of living. “I know that most students at the moment that are working part time are struggling.” She acknowledged the wage increase in the budget in January, hoping to see some more “Light shed on that.”
Another voter concluded, “I hope that whoever is the winner is someone that represents the youth of Ireland and Limerick.”
More updates to follow as the upcoming election unfolds.
