DCU too strong for UL

DCU 3-11 UL 0-11

DCU are the 2021 Higher Education 2nd Year A Football Champions following their 9 point win over UL.

UL started the game well, with Paul Walsh the stand out forward for the away team – he kicked two early scores to put UL into the lead.

First half goals from Johnny McGroody and Red Og Murphy put a significant gap between the teams going into half time, with DCU 7 points to the good.

Despite having the wind advantage in the second half, UL couldn’t get back into the tie, as a goal from DCU centre back Seamus Byrne put the tin hat on an impressive performance from the Dubliners.

There was some solace for UL, with impressive performances by goalkeeper Diarmuid Doody, free takers Jack Mahon and Paul Walsh, and a strong showing from Kieran Costello.

Not to be for UL on the day, but expect to see some of this talent on show throughout the Sigerson season.
