The interprovincial competition will take place over this Friday and Saturday evenings.

Limerick footballers Josh Ryan, Danny Neville, James Naughton, and Sean O’Dea have been named in the Munster squad for the upcoming Railway Cup this weekend.

The Limerick players were selected by team manager John Cleary of Cork who is preparing the squad for this weekend’s clashes between the provinces at Croke Park. One of Cleary’s selectors for the competition is Limerick manager Jimmy Lee.

The competition follows a semi-final format with the meeting of Leinster and Connacht first up at 6 pm on Friday night followed by Munster taking on Ulster in the other semi-final at 8 pm.

On Saturday evening, the two beaten provinces will play at 5.30 pm before the final at 7.30 pm.

The Limerick men are joining a panel of 30 players consisting of players from all Munster counties.

The interprovincial series is being used to trial new football rules introduced by the Football Review Committee for the first time. Some of the rule changes include:

  • 1V1 throw ins
  • Each team must keep any 3 outfield players in each half of the field.
  • A new advanced mark
  • A point outside the new 40M arc is worth two points, a point inside that is worth one, and a goal will accrue four points

TG4 will broadcast Friday’s action, while RTÉ will take over the coverage for the finals on Saturday.
