Impressive Limerick open up their campaign with a 30 point victory

Limerick 4-29 Kerry 0-11

Limerick hurler’s opened up their 2022 season with an impressive victory against Kerry in the Co-Op Superstores Munster Hurling Cup.

The away side couldn’t reproduce their heroics of their win against Tipperary last weekend, as the home side ran riot in the second half.

In truth Kerry had no answers to Limerick as they won all the battles all over the field. The game was over by the first water break as Limerick went through the gears.

David Reidy turned in a man of the match performance pulling all the strings from the half forward line, with Reidy leading the way on the score board finishing with 1-14.

Pat Ryan aided Reidy in the first half with some wonderful scores including an outrageous over the shoulder point.

Kerry did draw level in the 6th minute but that was as good as it got for the Kingdom. Limerick hit a purple patch with Cathal O’Neill, Oisin O’Reilly and Reidy all adding points before Ryan getting his first goal of the game to end the game as a contest just before the water break as Limerick were in command leading 1-8 to 0-2.

The home side were in a ruthless mood with O’Neil popping over four points with Colin Coughlan and Brian O’Grady also getting in on the act.

Paudie Ahern did add a point for Kerry before half time, but it was too little to late. Coughlan, Ryan and yet again Reidy finished the scoring as they ran up a 15-point lead.

It didn’t get any better in the second half for the away side as Limerick went through the motions and pushed on until the end.

Further goals from Reidy, Ryan and debutant Adam English got in on the goals with the Kerry side having no answers.

Fittingly Reidy with another free ended proceedings which capped off an impressive display from him and his teammates.

Next up for Limerick sees them face off Clare next weekend in the early preseason final.
