Manager John Kiely hasn’t been afraid to switch things up in his first two lineups of the year
Limerick have named their side to play Tipperary this Sunday at the TUS Gaelic Grounds in Round 3 of the Allianz Hurling League (3.45 pm).
There are five changes to the team that drew with Cork in Páirc Uí Chaoimh last Saturday. Shane Dowling gets an opportunity to stake his claim as he replaces Jason Gillane in goal. The other changes see Fergal O’Connor, David Reidy, Eddie Stokes, and Aaron Gillane replace Sean Finn, William O’Donoghue, Gearoid Hegarty, and Shane O’Brien – with the latter the only name left in the matchday squad.
It looks like Kiely will give Shane Dowling equal opportunity to win the number one jersey as he starts between the sticks. Young corner back Fergal O’Connor replaces the injured Sean Finn and will join Dan Morrissey and Barry Murphy in the full back line while Kiely is sticking with the same half back line of Diarmuid Byrnes, Kyle Hayes, and Colin Coughlan.
In midfield, captain Cian Lynch drops back from centre forward to replace the injured William O’Donoghue and will partner Adam English. English’s Doon teammate Eddie Stokes gets his first start replacing Gearoid Hegarty who sustained a hand injury in the draw to Cork.
He’s joined by David Reidy and Aidan O’Connor while the electric Aaron Gillane returns to the lineup – joining Donnacha Ó Dálaigh and Patrick O’Donovan in the full forward line.
On the substitutes bench Hugh Flanagan, Dylan Lynch, and Oisin O’Farrell have been added to the matchday squad and will look to impress if given the opportunity.
Sean Finn, William O’Donoghue, and Gearoid Hegarty all sustained injuries against Cork while Mike Casey, Barry Nash, Declan Hannon, Darragh O’Donovan, Cathal O’Neill, Tom Morrissey and Peter Casey are all still unavailable for selection.
The visitors also make five changes to their team from last week with UL’s Gearoid O’Connor returning. Sean Kenneally, Bryan O’Mara, Barry Hogan and Darragh Stakelum are also in the starting lineup.
Noel McGrath features in the squad for the first time this season and the Premier county will have McGrath to call upon as well as his brother Noel and Jason Forde if scores are needed late on.
