If Limerick FC are going to retain their status in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division for 2018, three points is a must Saturday evening when an already relegated Drogheda Utd visit Markets Field.
Neil McDonald’s Limerick side are currently lying in seventh position in the table, only three points from safety with three massive games to go.
In Limerick’s last outing, Captain Shane Duggan scored a late equaliser as his side salvaged what could prove to be a pivotal 2-2 draw away to St Patrick’s Athletic last Saturday evening.
Limerick will be keen to build on their recently gathered momentum – unbeaten in their last three outings – by making it a hat-trick of victories over Drogheda Utd this season.
Back in April, Limerick dismantled the Louth based side 3-0 with the goals coming from Rodrigo Tosi, Chris Mulhall and Chiedozie Ogbene.
They then defeated the Louth based side 2-0 in June with Robbie Williams and Garbhan Coughlan getting their names on the scoresheet.
Speaking to the Limerick FC website, Duggan stressed that Limerick are treating Drogheda like any other game, insisting that a top performance is necessary from the Shannonsiders
“I think everyone is saying to us we have to get the win next week and they’re expecting us to get the three points, but Drogheda are not going to be any pushover,” he told the Limerick FC website after the St Patrick’s Athletic tie.
“They have nothing really to fear now – they can go out and enjoy their football. We know they’re going to be a threat. We just have to be at our game, play at a high tempo at home and I think we can get the three points.”
Only six points separate Limerick and Finn Harps, who are second from the bottom, so every point from here on in is crucial to maintaining to status in the top flight of Irish soccer.
The match kicks-off at 6.30pm.
