Kelly Strike Gives Limerick Slender Play-Off Lead

It’s advantage Limerick in the Airtricity League Promotion-Relegation Play-Off after a tense 1-0 win over Finn Harps at Market’s Field on Monday evening.

Limerick’s Shaun Kelly grabbed the game’s only goal on 35 minutes, with a thundering strike from the edge of the penalty area.

The Shannon-siders had the better of the opening half, with Ian Turner, Shane Tracy and Vinny Faherty all going close for the home side.

Harps best opportunity came 12 minutes from time when substitute BJ Banda rounded Limerick keeper Ian Hall, only to see his 20-yard effort flash wide of the open goal.

Martin Russell’s side still have plenty of work to do in the second leg in Ballybofey on Friday. Kick-off at Finn Park is at 7.45pm.

Limerick FC: Hall, Kelly, Williams, Kanyuka, O’Conor, Duggan, Tracy, Turner, Faherty, Russell, Clarke (Lynch 69).

Finn Harps: Gallagher, Coll, Cowan, Crossan (Fox 62), Malley J, Malley P, McNulty, Funston (Tagbo 83), Harkin, McNamee, Boyle (Banda 53).
