Limerick GAA confirmed the news in a statement released on behalf of team management this morning

Limerick senior hurling management has confirmed that star goalkeeper Nickie Quaid has suffered a serious knee injury.

In a statement released on behalf of the Limerick Senior Hurling management, Limerick GAA confirmed:

“The Limerick Senior Hurling Management wish to confirm that Nickie Quaid underwent a scan on Friday last that confirmed he has suffered an ACL injury.  We wish Nickie the very best in his recovery and assure him of our total support in the months ahead.”

Quaid’s absence represents a massive loss to the Limerick hurlers with the goalkeeper winning three All star awards and being ever present between the sticks since the squads first All Ireland title back in 2018.

Joining the panel back in 2010, the Effin clubman has gone on to win five All-Ireland senior hurling medals as well as seven Munster championship titles and three National League medals.

It remains to be seen how John Kiely will go about replacing Quaid during his impending spell on the sidelines.
Patrickswell’s Jason Gillane will be the favourite to replace Quaid after a strong club championship while David McCarthy of Glenroe and Monaleen’s Jamie Power have also featured for the Treaty in recent times and will be contenders to step in for the star goalkeeper.
