TWO of GAA’s main rivals and close neighbours, Limerick and Clare are taking their competition off the hurling field and on to the golf course this November when they compete for the Shannon Airport Cup.
The Clare team will be represented by former Clare hurling captain, Brian Lohan in this ‘Ryder Cup’ style tournament, while Limerick will be led by former Limerick hurling captain and All-Star recipient, Ollie Moran. The duo will be jetting to the Costa del Sol in Spain for the four day golf challenge, organised by tour company Golf Voyager.
Head of Communications with Shannon Group, Nandi O’Sullivan says Shannon Airport is delighted to be a sponsor for the event.
“It highlights one of the many activities that people can enjoy when they fly to one of 35 destinations from Shannon Airport, golfing is a very popular activity. We are delighted to support this unique event which showcases our Malaga air service from Shannon.”
Speaking at the launch of the Shannon Airport Cup, the CEO of Golf Voyager Conor Galvin explained that he has no doubt that this golf tournament will be a success.
“There is an appetite for competitive team golf with a difference and bringing a hurling rivalry into the equation will certainly add to the excitement. We hosted a similar Munster vs Leinster rugby themed golf outing in Vilamoura back in January 2017 which was a huge success.”
There are 64 places on this trip available for supporters, to be divided equally between the two counties.
The event will be taking place at the La Cala Golf Resort in the Costa del Sol from Saturday 18th November to Tuesday 21st November 2017.
