PREVIEW: Early top of the table Munster derby for Treaty United

A win for Treaty over Cork City would see them go level on points with the league leaders.

After an impressive start to the 2024 Airtricity First Division, Treaty United face their toughest task yet in the form of Cork City this Friday at Markets Field with kick off at 7:45pm.

The two remain the only unbeaten sides in the Division after five game weeks, with Treaty only playing four while their opponents have lined out for all five.

Due to last weekend’s fixture against Longford being postponed, Tommy Barrett’s side have been out of action since March 8th, where they dropped their first points of the season in a 2-2 draw against Bray despite they leading by two goals with twenty minutes left to play.

Treaty United’s recent results:

  • 2-2 v Bray (D)
  • 1-4 v Kerry (L) (Munster Senior Cup)
  • 1-0 v Kerry (W)
  • 0-1 v UCD (W)
  • 3-1 v Cobh Ramblers (W)

Meanwhile, their opponents have been in fine form since their relegation from the Premier Division last year, conceding one goal all season and winning their last three games on the bounce.

Cork City’s recent results:

  • 2-0 v Bray (W)
  • 0-2 v Longford Town (W)
  • 1-0 v UCD (W)
  • 1-1 v Finn Harps (D)
  • 2-0 v Kerry (W)

Barring any late injury concerns, Colin Conroy looks set to be Treaty’s only absentee with an almost full strength squad at Barrett’s disposal.

Despite being a division apart last season, the two met in the second round of the FAI Cup with Cork progressing with a 2-0 victory.

However, Treaty have been victorious over their local rivals before, with a famous 2-0 victory of their own coming in 2022 with Ben O’Riordan and Marc Ludden getting on the scoresheet that day.
