PREVIEW: Monday night Munster derby as Treaty visit Cobh

(C) Alwyn Robinson Photography

After a heartbreaking defeat at home to Athlone on Friday, a trip to Cobh comes next for a Treaty United side winless in their last six games in all competitions. The Rams also come into the game in poor form, with four straight losses having followed their most recent win away to Kerry, on August 9. St. Colman’s Park will see a game played mostly for pride between two of the First Division’s struggling clubs.

With little or nothing to play for on the Limerick side of this Munster derby, there may time for some experimentation from Tommy Barrett in the dugout. Personnel selection may lean towards the promising youth coming through the club’s academy. Cobh Ramblers do sit outside the playoff by a wide margin, as fifth place Wexford sit 12 points ahead of them, but Ramblers have a game in hand and a win gives them the faintest dreams of some playoff games.

Cobh were well outplayed in their last game at the Belfield Bowl, beaten by a goal each from Sean Brennan and Mikey McCullagh where the victors UCD strengthened their grip on second. Treaty were denied a hard earned point from Dean Ebbe’s last-chance-saloon goal at Market’s Field, after an early second-half red card to starting ‘keeper Corey Chambers.

The Shannonsiders may be without star names like Enda Curran, Ben O’Riordan and Stephen Christopher, who missed out against Athlone. They will definitely miss the aforementioned Chambers through suspension, alongside Fionn Doherty who was also injured for the game last Friday.
