Tommy Barrett’s side are travelling to Athlone looking to right the wrongs of the opening night
Treaty United are back in League of Ireland First Division action this Friday, as they travel to Athlone Town.
Kick-off is 7:45pm in the Athlone Town Stadium, with United looking to get their first points of the season on the board.
The season opener last week saw Tommy Barrett’s men surrender a two-goal advantage to Cobh Ramblers late on, with the Cork side netting thrice in the closing ten minutes to claim the win.
Goals from Richkov Boevi and Lee Devitt put Treaty into a commanding position in Garryowen, only for the wheels to come off as the clock ticked down.
Barrett will be disappointed with the manner in which his side let the game slip last week, but will take plenty of positives from the performance in a wider sense.
Friday’s opponents Athlone also fell to defeat on opening night, as they lost 1-0 away to Dundalk.
It means Treaty and Athlone sit sixth and seventh in the league table respectively, although without much relevance due to the infancy of the season.
The sides locked horns at the Markets Field back in September last season, as Dean Ebbe netted a late winner to give the visitors all three points. Town also won the other three meetings the pair played out last term, as they asserted dominance over the Shannonsiders.
Having struggled against Athlone last year, Treaty will no doubt be keen on putting in a good performance on Friday night and claiming at least one point if not all three.
A live stream of the clash will be available on LOITV.
