Best attack hosts best defence as league leaders head to Garryowen
Treaty United face a daunting task when they come up against ‘The Lilywhites’ who have run away with things at the top of the table. Treaty have collected just four points from their last 15 available, while Dundalk have won five straight games in the league and sit seven points clear of second. The game takes place this Friday night (April 18) at 7:45PM.
That being said, the only blight on their record nine games into the new season is a draw to Treaty at Oriel Park. ‘The Shannonsiders’ were staring down the barrel of a defeat but Eóin Martin halved the deficit on 87 minutes, before Lee Devitt levelled in injury time to secure a 2-2 draw on the road.
Lee Devitt has been in fantastic form for Treaty this year, with six goals in nine games for the club so far. Behind him (although level with a few others) is Dundalk’s Dean Ebbe, who has four goals in nine games for Dundalk through this campaign. Treaty supporters may remember (and wish to forget) he netted a late winner for Athlone Town at the Markets Field in their September matchup.
There are plenty of other options in the Dundalk attack that Treaty will have to be wary of, with Leo Gaxha and Eoin Kenny offering different dynamics in the final third. The likes of Evan O’Connor and Richkov Boevi in the Treaty backline will be in for a busy evening.
United will be relying on the likes of Lee Devitt and Yoyo Mahdy to get themselves on the scoresheet in front of their home crowd against a Dundalk side which has only conceded four times this year. What will give Treaty confidence heading into the game is they have netted the most goals with 16 so far this year, and they will need all the firepower they can muster to get a result out of Dundalk.
