Project to restore Limerick laneways

Limerick City and County Council have begun a new project to restore and revitalise the Georgian laneways in the city.

A team of architects, designers and engineers have been selected to redesign the Limericks laneways to make them a more enjoyable space for locals and tourists. There will be opportunities to view and comment on the developing proposals in 2021.

Rosie Webb, head of Urban Innovation in Limerick city and county council, stated, “Limericks Georgian heritage is a fantastic resource and a jewel in the crown of the city. Reimagining the laneways that connect the streets is an important way to develop the city and attract more people to live here.

The laneways project is part of the Living Georgian City initiative; the scheme recently won a Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Award in the Enhancing the Urban Environment category.

The plans are to revamp twenty-five laneways, seven of which will be fabricated to a higher level.
