Irish Trad has been transformed as Huartan give tradition an electronic twist.
Belfast-based group Huartan are set to bring their distinctive take on Irish-language music to Dolan’s Live Music Venue in Limerick at 8pm on Thursday, October 1. The event is strictly over-18s, with tickets priced at €20.
The group have built a name for themselves by bringing the Irish language into a contemporary setting, combining traditional music with electronic sounds, dance and theatrical performances.
In 2025, they were named BBC Introducing NI Artist of the Year, while they also picked up NI Prize Live Act of the Year in 2024.
Irish language at the centre of the modern music scene
At the heart of Huartan are Catriona Ní Ghribín, Múlú and Stiofán Ó Luachráin, traditional Irish musicians from the Gaeltacht Quarter of West Belfast.
Their live shows go beyond a standard music performance. A wider cast of musicians, artists and dancers appear as masked mythical creatures, creating a surreal backdrop to Irish language songs.
The band’s work is rooted in anti-colonial and anti-capitalist ideas, with their performances drawing on the mythology and traditions of pre-Christian Ireland.
Huartan arrive in Limerick during a period of renewed international interest in Irish music and culture.

Artists including CMAT, Fontaines D.C., Kneecap and Hozier have all found large audiences internationally in recent years, while Huartan represent a more language-focused and theatrical side of the current Irish music scene.
Huartan are part of a newer generation of Irish artists pushing that momentum in a different direction, mixing traditional culture and language with contemporary sounds and performance.
