Most people were staying indoors on Friday as Storm Amy put Limerick under a yellow weather warning. But not Taylor Swift fans, who arrived at The Odeon to listen to her new album, The Life of a Showgirl.

Swifties took over the cinema in their hundreds to celebrate all things Taylor. Clad in merchandise and cosplay, they exchanged friendship bracelets and sang along to the singer’s most iconic hits.

The album release party featured a new music video for lead single “The Fate of Ophelia”, behind the scenes footage, and exclusive Taylor Swift commentary.

An intimate video showcased the hectic nature of Swift’s life, with the pop star dressing up as Hamlet’s Ophelia, a dignified cabaret dancer, and an actress.

The glimpse behind the scenes allowed Limerick’s Swifties to connect more with their American hero. Local fans were thrilled to be able to engage with the pop star from across the pond.

“When Taylor announced the movie, I didn’t think it would even be shown in Irish cinemas. So for it to be shown in Limerick is really cool,” one overjoyed Swiftie said.

This is the second time Swifties have arrived in their droves to take over Limerick cinemas, following the highly successful premiere of “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” in 2023.

Taylor announced The Life of a Showgirl on her now-fiancé Travis Kelce’s podcast, New Heights. The highly anticipated album reveals the highs and lows of her life during her two-and-a-half-year tour.
