The Annual Limerick History Festival returns on September 30, until October 7, 2026.
Originally called ‘Shannonside History Festival’, activities include free tours of the People’s Museum, walking tour of Arthur’s Quay, Irish Natural Stone workshop and much more.
“Every street has a history” explains William O’Neill, Museum Curator at Limerick Civic Trust.
For its third year running, the festival has expanded from a three-day celebration to a week with discussions and talks taking place throughout the city and in Killmallock for people to share new opinions, stories and perspectives on the city.
Contributors include Brian Hodkinson, and Randel Hodkinson, who will give a tour of the J. Hodkinson & Sons workshop, an ecclesiastical and interior decorating workspace. The events cater to not only those fond of history but also to tourists, families and the younger generation.
“We would love to see people come to discover the history of Limerick and the lesser-known parts of the city,” O’Neill remarks.
The wide array of activities and the success of previous years festivals all point to a week that promises to teach visitors all about the city.
One of the highlights of the week will be the presentation of the 1926 Census Exhibition Launch in City Hall, Merchant’s Quay. The main findings, facts and intricacies will be discussed during the event.
