LIMERICK City and County Council have announced their intention to close sections of certain roads in Limerick City this Christmas season.

Notice was published on October 9, with details of the specified locations and times to facilitate for ‘Christmas in Limerick’ 2026 events.

The Crescent Road closure is proposedly set from November 16 to December 31, 2026. This closure also includes a period of parking prohibition on the street.

While the closure of The Crescent is the longest planned closure for the 2026 Christmas period, there have been several other notices of street closures for Christmas events.

Other road closures included in the proposal are to facilitate ‘The Light Up Limerick Christmas Procession Parade’, taking place November 21.

Some affected sections of road include areas of O’Connell St, both Glentworth St and Lower Glentworth St.

Pedestrian access to footpaths will be maintained at all times during the proposed closures, as well as the operation of local diversions for traffic. Emergency Service Vehicle access has also been mentioned, stating that they will be available at all times.

If anyone wishes to object to the proposed closures of these roads, an email can be sent to roads@limerick.ie, with a strict deadline of Tuesday, October 20.

Objections can also be submitted in writing to the Administration Team, Central Services, Roads, Limerick City and County Council, Dooradoyle, Limerick. This submission must also adhere to the deadline of October 20.
