Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following an assault that occurred on St Alphonsus Street, Limerick City, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
A man in his twenties has been brought to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries following the incident.
The assault is believed to have taken place at approximately 3am, after which emergency services were alerted to the scene. As of now, the man is still in serious condition.
Gardaí are urging those who were in the vicinity of the Dock Road, Henry Street and St Alphonsus Street in the early hours of Wednesday morning to come forward with information.
Those in possession of any footage, including dash cam footage in the area at this time, have also been requested to make this footage available to Gardaí.
Those with information may contact the Henry Street Garda Station at 061 212 400, the confidential line, 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
The assault comes in the wake of a new policing plan, which was launched by Gardaí at the beginning of March, in efforts to crack down on inner city crime.
The incident is the second assault in Limerick City occurring over the St Patrick’s celebratory period, happening shortly after another incident on Athlunkard Street last night.
The two assaults are not known to be linked, and investigations are ongoing in both incidents.
