Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rain and wind warning as the gusts of Storm Amy begin to stir Limerick weather.
Storm Amy is the first named storm of the 2025–26 season, and unsettled weather is set to continue into next week, hitting Limerick’s neighbouring county Kerry the hardest. There is warning of a risk of flooding and very difficult travelling conditions in the region.
A broader Status Yellow rain warning will also be in effect during the same time for Cavan, Donegal, Longford, Munster and Connacht with the potential for localised flooding, blocked drains, and hazardous travel conditions, with Met Éireann cautioning that the winds may result in debris on roads, fallen trees, and further travel disruption.
For students, that could mean wet walks to campus, buses running slower, and a few umbrellas turned inside-out on O’Connell Street.
Authorities are advising for the public to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during peak warning periods, and secure any loose outdoor items ahead of the storm’s arrival.
