Revolut users across Ireland left without digital banking this morning.

A GOOGLE Cloud outage caused Revolut to go down this morning, affecting millions of users across Ireland and the UK.

The digital banking app with 3.4 million Irish users began experiencing issues today (October 20) around 7am, and services were restored early in the afternoon.

These issues caused Revolut users’ cards to decline, login issues on the app, delayed waiting times for bank transfers, and the inability to get money out from ATMs.

Revolut user Kathleen Slattery, who commutes to Portlaoise for work Monday to Friday, told the Limerick Voice, “When I got onto the bus to buy my ticket this morning, the bus driver told me my card declined. The funds were in my account, I felt embarrassed and frustrated after being told by the bus driver there was nothing he could do for me.”

Another Revolut user, John O’Meara, said to the Limerick Voice, “I went into the butchers like I usually do two or three times a week to get a few bits for my family’s dinner and today I was told that the payment was failing after trying both my Revolut cards.”

Revolut posted on social media, saying it was a “service disruption”. They were adamant that everyone’s funds and data would be safe while they fix the issues.

On the Revolut app, they have issued everyone a warning, “If you’re experiencing with any features, it’s due to a technical problem on our side. Rest assured, we’re working on it. We apologise for any inconvenience.”

People took to social media to voice their anger on the outage. One user on X said, “Everyone using Revolut has been humiliated today. I was trying to pay for food and it looks like I have no money.”

“Revolut, I want compensation. You made me look a right tw*t this morning,” another user on X claimed.

The bank doesn’t have to compensate everyone for the disruption. If you have been impacted by the outage financially you can make a claim to the Revolut support team. Revolut users must provide substantial evidence on how the issues have caused them to lose money. Your claim will be decided by an independent body.
