Limerick City and County Council welcomes the announcement of €5.7 million in government funding to support legacy projects linked to the 2027 Ryder Cup in Adare.
The funding was announced by Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport Patrick O’Donovan and aims to ensure the global sporting event leaves a lasting benefit for Adare, Limerick, and the wider Midwest region.
A number of key projects have been identified for delivery as part of the funding package. These include the refurbishment and extension of Adare Village Hall, the refurbishment of Adare Heritage Centre, enhancements to the Adare public realm, and a tree-planting sustainability initiative. The projects will be delivered by Limerick City and County Council in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport.
Preparations are already underway for Limerick to host the Ryder Cup from September 13 to 19, 2027, which the council says will position Limerick as a global centre for golf during the event.
In a statement, Limerick City and County Council said progressing these projects will see Adare as a key cultural and tourist hub in Limerick and the Midwest, with long-term benefits for the local community.
Mayor of Limerick John Moran said the investment would ensure the benefits of hosting the Ryder Cup extend well beyond the event itself. Highlighting the significance of the opportunity, he said: “it’s about ensuring the benefits of 2027 are felt long after the final putt is holed.”
Príomh Chomhairleoir of Limerick City and County Council Catherine Slattery described the funding as a strong vote of confidence in Adare and the wider Limerick community, noting the potential for long-term improvements to local facilities and businesses.
Director General Pat Daly said the announcement provides certainty as planning continues for 2027 and beyond, promising to ensure the projects are delivered efficiently and to the highest possible standard.
Limerick is expected to welcome thousands of visitors, golfers, and international media during the Ryder Cup.
