Independent presidential candidate Catherine Connolly brought her campaign to Limerick City on Saturday 18 October, drawing large crowds as she met voters, joined a local demonstration, and made national headlines.
The Galway West TD began her day at the Milk Market, where she greeted stallholders and spoke with shoppers before moving through Cruises Street and Bedford Row. She attended a Rally for Palestine, which was disrupted by Enoch Burke, an incident that later gained national attention.
Afterwards, Connolly continued to the Crescent Shopping Centre, where a large crowd gathered to meet her, take photos, and discuss issues ahead of polling day. Her stop in Limerick was part of a wider cross-country tour focused on direct engagement with the public.
Connolly was joined by local representatives from Limerick city’s left-wing parties, including Labour TD Conor Sheehan and Sinn Féin TD Maurice Quinlivan. Both described the local response to her campaign as overwhelmingly positive.
“The reaction here has been incredibly positive,” Sheehan said while canvassing at the Crescent Shopping Centre. “Out of all the campaigns I’ve worked on, this one stands out for its energy and warmth.”
Quinlivan echoed that view, saying enthusiasm among younger voters could prove decisive for the independent candidate. “The message is clear, people don’t want Fine Gael in the Áras,” he said. “Young people have really connected with Catherine’s message. If they come out and vote, she will be president.”
