MUNSTER Rugby will welcome Racing 92 to Cork on Saturday, October 17, for a Champions Cup fixture that will include a series of tributes to Anthony Foley, marking the 10th anniversary of his death.

Foley, known affectionately as Axel, died in Paris in October 2016. A Munster and Ireland legend, he represented the province as a player and captain before becoming head coach. He remains one of the most significant figures in Munster Rugby’s history, remembered for his famous scrum cap, powerful runs and his leadership and commitment to the province.

A number of tributes will take place before and during the match, with players and supporters invited to honour Foley and celebrate his legacy.

Before kick-off, Jean Wallace and members of Shannon RFC will perform ‘There Is an Isle’ in what will be an emotional tribute to Foley, who played for and captained the club for many years. A photographic display documenting his career will also be on show in the ‘Red Shed’ outside the stadium.

Munster players will wear jackets featuring the club crest and the number eight, the jersey number Foley wore with pride throughout his career.

The pre-match programme will also include a presentation in which the two captains exchange jerseys, once again featuring the number eight. A minute of applause will take place in the eighth minute, led by the Munster Rugby Supporters Club.

At half-time, boys and girls from Ballina-Killaloe RFC and Shannon RFC will take part in a mini-game, celebrating Foley’s connection to both clubs.
