Halloween is here, folks. While some will spend their weekend eating endless amounts of sweets and chocolates, here are the sporting events on TV that I’ll be sinking my teeth into as we ease into November.
Treaty United V Bray Wanderers, Sunday 3.00, LOI TV
For the first time, Tommy Barrett’s Treaty United have reached the League of Ireland First Division Promotion Playoff Final, where they’ll face Bray Wanderers in Athlone. Barrett’s men have good reason for confidence, as they bested Bray at the Markets Field just three weeks ago. The game is finely poised, as both sides won two games each in the regular season. The winner will face either Waterford, Sligo Rovers, or Galway United – whoever finishes second from bottom in the Premier Division.
Ireland V New Zealand, Saturday 8.10, Virgin Media One
Andy Farrell is back at the helm of the Irish team after his stint away with the British and Irish Lions, and he takes his troops to Chicago to take on the All Blacks in the first of the Autumn internationals series. It’s been nine years since Ireland’s last trip to the Windy City, where they secured their first ever win over Saturday’s opposition.
Ballygunner v Na Piarsaigh, Sunday 3.30, TG4
Na Piarsaigh are back in Munster hurling championship action on Sunday after their county final win a fortnight ago. Waterford powerhouse Ballygunner will provide stiff opposition at the TUS Gaelic Grounds. Ballygunner aim to defeat the Limerick champions for the third straight year in the Munster championship, as they defeated Doon last year, as well as Na Piarsaigh in 2023.

Athy V Baltinglass, Sunday 1.30, TG4
After a heroic win in the county final two weeks ago, Kildare outfit Athy start their Leinster campaign against Wicklow side Baltinglass. In terms of provincial games, it’s about as close to a local derby as you can get – just 18km separates the two towns. Athy will be strong favourites here, boasting the likes of Kevin Feely, David Hyland, and Cathal McCarron in their ranks.
Tottenham V Chelsea, Saturday 5.30, Sky Sports Premier League
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is the venue for the pick of this week’s Premier League action, as hosts Spurs take on old rivals Chelsea in a London derby. High-flying Spurs are enjoying life under new manager Thomas Frank, sitting third in the league at the time of writing, while visitors Chelsea sit in ninth.
It’s bound to be a good weekend, folks. I’ll chat to you here again at the same time next week for more TV sporting action.
