Dingle 2-15 Mungret St Paul’s 0-02

While not perfect, Dingle did plenty enough to see off Mungret St Paul’s and advance to a second Munster Senior Club Football Championship Final in three years.

2-2 from Conor Geaney, including a goal from the opening score of the game, set the emphasis for a dominant Dingle display. They secured victory early on and never looked back. Mungret’s opening score arrived as the game entered the final quarter, a Tom Lloyd free ended the whitewash.

Conor raised another green flag in the second period, a move where two of the Geaney clan (Niall and Dylan) contributed to the icing on the cake.

Two weeks following their maiden title victory, facing Dingle away was always going to provide a sturdier test. Combined with the fact that Mungret were forced to make five changes to their previous starting 15. The odds were certainly stacked against their favour.

The opening ten minutes from Dingle backed up their favourites tag. With just two minutes on the clock, Mungret were turned over in midfield. Dylan Geaney lofted a pass on top of his brother Conor, who executed a peach of a goal off his left.

That was never going to help Mungret’s chances. Scores from Dylan, and a single and two-pointer combo from Niall followed. The Geaney show was underway in Austin Stack Park.

Dingle’s rear-guard, led by inter-county men Tom Leo O’Sullivan and Tom O’Sullivan proved too difficult for Mungret to bypass. They managed just three shots in the opening period, and failed to register a score on any.

Dingle were not flawless by any manner of means either. On four occasions, their forward passing let them down with the ball trickling out over the endline. Matthew Flaherty and Tom O’Sullivan each got scores from turnovers. Captain Paul Geaney notched his first of the day after 22 minutes.

The goalscorer Conor finished the first half with a point to end a miserable 30 minutes for Mungret St Paul’s.

Dylan and Conor got the second half underway with two scores, Conor curling one off the left. He followed that three minutes later a goal to complete his brace.

O’Sullivan fisted over on the following kickout, with Paul adding on shortly after. Mungret finally got on the scoreboard through a Lloyd free in the 46th minute. Yet, they failed to register from play. Luke Walsh kicked another free as the game entered injury time.

Paul and Dylan Geaney (f), and substitute Cathal O’Bambury kicked the final three scores. They progress to a Munster Final on Sunday, 7 December.
