Adare 1-13 Mungret St Paul’s 0-17
Shane Barry was the hero for Mungret St Paul’s, who have reached just their second-ever Limerick SFC Final, defeating Adare in Askeaton.
An inadequate third-quarter showing, where they failed to register a score, was contrasted with a marvellous seven-point bonanza in the final 15 minutes of action.
Mungret found themselves behind by three with five minutes to go, when substitute Diarmaid Hynes kicked two points to reduce the gap to the minimum. Adare shot themselves in the foot with a breach of the 3-up rule, leaving Barry to level the semi-final.
Mungret won the following kickout, and when Darragh O’Sullivan saw Barry brushing past him on the loop, there was only one choice. The full-forward got the shot off his left and sent his side into the final.
Kevin O’Hagan’s men couldn’t have dreamed of a better start, quickly registering the opening four scores of the game. Hutton notched two frees, with his forward partner Giltenane adding on after a failed kickout. The best of their opening came from the full-forward Barry. He came in on the loop to receive a pass from Darragh O’Hagan and finished a fine team score.
Davy Lyons (replaced after 29 mins with injury) eventually got the favourites underway. Moments later, Adare struck for a goal from Michael O’Mahony. Hugh Bourke made a darting run past the Mungret defence, he completed a stunning incisive pass to O’Mahony who found the roof of the net. Just like that, all square.

Giltenane stopped the rot for Mungret, with Frank Corcoran getting the assist after a promising counter-attack run. Bourke and Hutton traded frees before the Adare full-forward line displayed their danger. An over-the-top handpass from Shane O’Connor reached O’Mahony whose goal effort slipped over the black spot.
Paul Maher contributed with a point for Adare alongside O’Connor yet their two-point lead was short lived. Hutton opted for the two-point free and was justly rewarded to level matters. The sides remained level with scores on both ends. Yet Adare will look back on a goal chance from a poor Mungret kickout that they failed to capatilise on. O’Sullivan got into an inside area and his point sent Mungret into the interval with the advantage.
Adare came out firing in the second half, led by O’Mahony who finished with 1-6 from play on the day. He started with a single and a glorious double to follow. A point from Ronan Connolly topped off a brilliant third-quarter. Eoghan Costello, Maher, and Cian Sparling were sweeping up any Mungret threat on the other side.
Barry finally got Mungret’s second half underway with a free in the 47th minute, with Jack McCarthy pointing quickly after. O’Mahony capped off a fine display with two more points. Shane Costelloe quickly cancelled out an Oisín Moss point with one of his own, to keep Mungret at bay.
Hynes entered the game after 34 minutes, but two points in the dying embers kickstarted the comeback. Adare had one final throw of the dice following Barry’s winning score. Yet the Mungret defence held firm to miraculously book a place in the final.
