Tommy Barrett has confirmed he will oversee Limerick FC for the 2027 season, following Treaty United’s 2-0 victory over Cobh Ramblers on Friday night.

Speaking to Live95’s soccer correspondent Mike Aherne after the match, Barrett confirmed he would lead the club into its first season under the Limerick FC name, with Treaty United set to adopt the historic identity from 2027.

Aherne also reported that several departures are expected in the coming weeks, with players anticipated to pursue full-time opportunities ahead of next season.

The expected changes come as the club prepares for a new chapter under the Limerick FC name.

Barrett to lead new era

Barrett has been a central figure in senior football in Limerick for more than a decade. He previously managed Limerick FC, taking charge of the senior side in 2018 and remaining in the role until the club’s final season in 2019.

Following the club’s collapse, Barrett was appointed Treaty United manager in February 2021, guiding the newly established side into the League of Ireland First Division. He has remained in charge since its inaugural season.

Treaty United confirmed in September that the formalities had been completed to adopt the Limerick FC name from the start of the 2027 season, bringing the club’s future identity back to the historic name of senior football in the city.

Mark Walsh bids farewell

Mark Walsh’s departure was spoken about online following Friday night’s game, bringing an end to his time at Treaty United as the last remaining player from the club’s inaugural 2021 squad.

Walsh made over 100 appearances for Treaty. One of his most memorable moments came in June 2025, when he scored a 92nd-minute equaliser against Dundalk FC.

Another player attracting attention is Jack Brady, who was named Treaty United’s Players’ Player of the Year, Fans’ Player of the Year and Blue Army Supporters Club Player of the Season.

Brady celebrated the three awards in a social media post, reflecting on the memories he had made during his time at the club and expressing excitement about what the future might bring. However, he has not confirmed a departure.

Further squad developments are expected in the coming weeks as Treaty United prepares for the transition to Limerick FC and players consider their options for the 2027 campaign.
