Business students turn music bingo into a major fundraiser for Parkinson’s Ireland.
Second-year business students Rebecca Hayden, Ava Kenneally, Emma Ryan, Rachel Guina, and Emily Mansfield have raised over €2,500 for Parkinson’s Ireland after hosting a charity bingo event.
The event, Bingo B*tch, which took place in Amber Nightclub on Tuesday, February 11, welcomed students to take part in a night of musical bingo, where prizes were up for grabs, including two Student Race Day tickets, a €200 Savage Signage Tint voucher, and much more.
All the event organisers study Business with Event Management at the Technological University of the Shannon, where they had to create, plan, and host an event as part of their classes Applied Event Planning and Applied Event Operations.
Emily Mansfield explains this further: “We had to come up with and run our own event. We decided that a successful event would have to involve students, as we thought we could easily target an event towards them.
“After a lot of brainstorming, we landed on the idea of music bingo in a nightclub,” she says, referencing the beginning of Britney Spears’ iconic song Gimme More.
She further speaks about the importance of raising funds for charity and the personal reasons behind choosing Parkinson’s Ireland as their charity of choice.
“It was always really important to us that we would use this opportunity to benefit a charity. Parkinson’s Ireland was the charity we wanted to donate to, as a close family member of one of the girls suffers from the disease.”
Emily mentions the success of the event and what’s next for the charitable crew. “Amber Nightclub asked us if we would be interested in running the event again. Without any hesitation, we said yes.
“We can’t wait to do it all over again with a bigger audience for RAG Week on Monday, 24th February!” she says, excited for the next event.
