Limerick is back to breathing life into the cinema world with director Whit Stillman.

OSCAR-NOMINATED director Whit Stillman is filming his latest feature, ‘A Night at Claridge’s’, on the streets of Limerick, bringing another major international production to the city.

The wartime drama is produced by Nathalie Lichtenthaeler of Wide Eye Films, who also produced ‘Once Upon a Time in a Cinema’, released earlier this year and also shot in Limerick. Stillman is best known for films including ‘Love & Friendship’ and ‘Metropolitan’.

‘A Night at Claridge’s’ is set in 1943 against the backdrop of the buildup to D-Day. The movie will revolve around Miss Roach (Laura Carmichael), a publisher’s reader who is forced to find new lodging after her house is shelled. She is caught between a bully, a lively German woman, Vicki, and a charming American soldier, Lieutenant Dayton Pike, played by Adam Brody. What starts as a plot for an easy meet-and-greet quickly turns into a psychological thriller that leads to a murder.

Regional Film Manager at Film in Limerick, Paul Ryan, stated, “Securing this production for the region is a significant moment for Film in Limerick. Whit Stillman is a filmmaker with an extraordinary body of work, and the opportunity to welcome him and this talented cast to Limerick is a strong endorsement of the region as a production destination.”

Ryan’s role at Film in Limerick is to make the process of filming in the region as straightforward and productive as possible, while connecting productions with the locations, crew, suppliers and services they need. “The return of Nathalie Lichtenthaeler and Wide Eye Films following Once Upon A Time in A Cinema is especially significant. Repeat productions and returning producers are an important indicator of the strength of Limerick’s offering, and this is another step in establishing long-term relationships with the international production community,” he added.

Whit Stillman has paired with Adam Brody before; the duo worked before in the movies ‘Damsels in Distress’ and ‘The Cosmopolitans’. Brody is popularly known for ‘Mr & Mrs Smith’, ‘Shazam’, and popular TV shows like ‘The OC’, ‘Gilmore Girls’, and ‘Nobody Want’s This’.

It was reported that Nathalie Lichtenthaeler was glad to return to Limerick after a positive production for ’Once Upon A Time in Cinema’. She said, “Our experience shooting  ’Once Upon a Time in a Cinema’ here was so positive that we resolved to return as soon as we could.”

This is not the first time Limerick has attracted popular filmmakers, with movies like ‘Cowboy and Angels’, ‘TRANSition’,  and ‘Angela’s Ashes’; the county is becoming an easy option for big productions.

In a report from the Irish Examiner, Paul Ryan, the Regional Film Manager, Mid-West Region, Ireland, said, “Whit Stillman is a filmmaker with an extraordinary body of work, and the opportunity to welcome him and this talented cast to Limerick is a strong endorsement.” He also added, “Repeat productions and returning producers are an important indicator of the strength of Limerick’s offering, and this is another step in establishing long-term relationships with the international production community.”

While an official release date for the movie is not out yet, it’s expected the movie will come out in mid-2027, as the movie is set to continue shooting in Limerick till mid December 2026.
