Gardaí have seized over €110,000 worth of suspected cannabis on Thursday as “Operation Tara” continues in Limerick.
Gardaí searched a domestic residence in Dooradoyle, leading to an arrest.
A woman in her 60’s was then conveyed to a Garda Station in Limerick City. She is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.
The drugs seized will be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.
Investigations are still ongoing.
The seizures are part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drug strategy, which was launched by the Garda Commissioner in July 2021.
Operation Tara was responsible for €500,000 worth of cocaine being seized in Limerick city five days ago.
A man in his 20’s was arrested in connection with the seizure after the van he was driving was stopped by Gardaí attached to the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit.
Gardaí discovered the suspected cocaine, with an estimated street value of €493,920, along with €3,000 in cash, and several electronic items.
A follow-up search at a residence in Castletroy unearthed a small quantity of cannabis and €2,075 in cash.
The operation was also responsible for another Limerick city drug seizure in May, where they seized €140,000 in suspected cocaine.
