Emergency services are currently at the scene of an incident at Castletroy College in Newtown, Limerick following the discovery of a package this Thursday afternoon.
Gardaí, firefighters, paramedics and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal service are currently attending the scene at the secondary school this Thursday afternoon.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal service is provided by the Defence Force’s Ordnance Corps.
It is understood that service was called to the scene in relation to suspected potentially hazardous material following the discovery of a package.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed: “Gardaí and emergency services are currently in attendance at an educational establishment in Newtown, Limerick following the discovery of a package on Thursday October 9th 2025.”
The spokesperson added: “There is no further information available at this time.”
The Limerick Voice understands that a section of Castletroy College Road has been temporarily closed to motorists following the incident.
A spokesperson for Limerick Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they received a call at 3.50pm this Thursday, October 9.
Three units from Limerick city responded to the report.
A statement from Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board (ETB) confirmed that an incident involving “a reported security alert” occurred this Thursday, adding that “all appropriate safety measures were immediately implemented”.
This includes a “full investigation” conducted by An Garda Síochána.
The statement from Limerick and Clare ETB explained: “As a precautionary measure, all students left the school as advised and were guided by staff with parents and guardians advised accordingly. The safety and wellbeing of our school communities is always our highest priority, and we are working closely with An Garda Síochána and relevant authorities as the matter is being investigated.
“We will continue to follow the advice of the authorities and provide updates as appropriate.”
The statement concluded: “As this is an ongoing investigation, we will not be making any further comment at this time.”
