Gardaí attached to Limerick’s Divisional Drug Unit, assisted by other regional units based in Limerick, carried out an intelligence led operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs in Limerick city on Wednesday February 25.
This operation was carried out as part of the ongoing efforts of Operation Tara, which launched in 2021. It aims to obstruct, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks at all levels.
During the operation Gardaí stopped a searched a vehicle in the city leading to the seizure of an estimated €70,000 worth of cocaine. A man in his 20’s was arrested in connection with the seizure and detained at Limerick Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking Act) 1996.
Further searchers were also carried out on a second vehicle and at a domestic residence. During these searches Gardaí uncovered 35 kilograms of suspected cannabis and 11 kilograms of suspected cocaine. These seizures have an estimated value of €700,000 and €780,000 respectively.
The total estimated value of the three seizures is €1.54 million.
The drugs seized will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.
Investigations are ongoing.
