Limerick City and County Council is inviting property owners across the county to express their interest in making their walls available for future mural projects.

The Councils are seeking to expand the number of “Walls of Limerick” available for creative use following the success of Limerick’s celebrated Street Art Trail and the international attention it has received in recent years.

“Limerick has long been renowned for its vibrant street art, which has become a distinctive feature of our streetscape and a powerful expression of local identity,” the Council said.

“These murals have not only brightened our urban spaces but have also acted as cultural touchpoints - attracting visitors, supporting artists, and fostering pride among residents. ”

Of the finished murals thus far, most students commuting via train will recognise the legendary Dodo Reddan before stopping in Sexton Street.

The mural, located at Sráid an Ceoil, St. John’s Pavilion in Limerick city centre, collaborated with Draw Out to commemorate Redden, whose real name was Hanora Quirke.

As seen in the piece, Dodo was well known for her pram full of dogs. She rescued countless dozens of stray dogs throughout her life and had been caring for 24 dogs when she passed away following a short illness in September 1995.

By participating, the Council says owners will “play a role in visually celebrating our region’s heritage and future ” and “contribute to Limerick’s cultural and tourism offering”.
