Limerick’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations came to an end on Tuesday 17 March, when an estimated 70,000 people gathered to watch the annual parade.
Mayor John Moran and marathon-winner Ava Crean lead the parade of more than 60 groups down the streets of Limerick.

Speaking with Limerick Voice after the event, Ms. Crean felt it was a “great honour” to be chosen as Grand Marshal of the parade.
“It’s been a shock… but I’ve loads of support in the community. I love seeing kids and my friends and everyone else coming out to cheer me on.”
This year’s theme was “Legends of Limerick”, showcasing the culture and history of the county.
At the forefront of the parade was a number of emergency responders, including firefighters and ambulance services.
They were cheered on as they passed through the city, and by viewers of the livestream around the world.
This year’s parade was livestreamed for the first time in the event’s history.
Mayor John Moran shared his approval saying, “it’s another great move forward.
“A lot of people from Limerick live away and can’t actually participate in the parade.”
The livestream currently has over 7 thousand views on YouTube.
“Ava’s unbelievable,” he added, “she was enjoying it more and more as she went along… It’s great, she deserves the celebration.”
The parade was filled with music, colour, and artistry, as local acts showed off their best and brightest.
The Boherbuoy Brass & Reed Band, among others, provided a soundtrack for the day, while creative groups like the Polish Arts Festival brought vibrant colours and intricate artworks.
A number of communities marched in the parade, including migrant groups from Ukraine, Palestine, and Nepal.
“I’m really proud of all the community groups and organisations that took part in the parade,” shared Labour TD Conor Sheehan, “the talent was just unbelievable.”
Following the parade, celebrations were held in Arthur’s Quay Park, as well as the Milk Market.
