Limerick will host a major international celebration of sport and culture this summer, with the 3rd European Sport for All Games set to take place from 6th to 11th August 2026.
Organised by Limerick Sports Partnership in partnership with TAFISA (The Association for International Sport for All), the five-day event is expected to attract more than 250 participants from 26 European delegations.
Streets, parks, and public spaces will be turned into a showcase of traditional sports, games, and cultural heritage with events open to people of all ages and abilities.
The games come just weeks after Ireland assumes the EU Presidency in July 2026.
Minister of Arts, Culture, Communications and Sport Patrick O’Donovan says the event “represents everything that is positive about sport in terms of participation, inclusion and community,” adding that it is “particularly fitting that Limerick will welcome delegations from across Europe”.
Mayor of Limerick John Moran said the games would bring “a wonderful energy to our streets, parks and public spaces” and provide “a fantastic opportunity to showcase Limerick as a vibrant, welcoming and active city on the European stage.”
The event also reinforces Limerick’s Global Active City status, with Sport Ireland’s Director of Participation Mary Van Lieshout noting that the games will be “a powerful example” of how everyday spaces can support physical activity.
Organisers say the confirmation of dates marks a key milestone in preparation.
Limerick Sports Partnership Manager Phelim Macken said they are “looking forward to further unlocking the potential of Limerick’s parks and public spaces.”
He is inviting communities to take part in what he described as a “European festival celebration.”
TAFISA President Wolfgang Baumann said the Games highlight “the very best of European cooperation,” adding that Limerick’s approach to engaging communities makes it “an ideal host city to stage this wonderful showcase of Europe’s living sporting traditions.”
