Limerick councillors plan to send a letter of support to the minister following hateful comments.

THE MUNICIPAL District of Newcastle West held its November meeting, which was filled with anger over social media comments targeting Minister Patrick O’Donovan.

This comes after the politician was hospitalised following a seizure during a meeting with European Union telecommunications ministers last month.

Councillor Michael Collins proposed the idea of sending a letter in support to the Limerick TD condemning the remarks made.

“Politics can be difficult at any stage, but when someone is sick, and they are not in the best of health, I think it is very unfair of keyboard warriors to have a go at somebody,” said Mr Collins.

The proposal was supported by most of the councillors.

Minister Patrick O’Donovan was described as a “massive, massive addition to County Limerick” and was said to have done “absolutely Trojan work for his career in the country” by his former colleagues.

The online discourse questioned whether the minister could hold his position with his diagnosed epilepsy condition.

The Minister O’Donovan is currently on leave from the cabinet and is recovering at home.

Fine Gael TD Peter Burke has taken over the duties as Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport.
