It’s a massive blow to Treaty United ahead of the 2026 season, as star midfielder Lee Devitt has confirmed he will be leaving the club via Instagram.

The 25-year-old notched 15 league goals this season and was named Treaty’s player of the year in both 2023 and 2024. He was also recently named in the PFAI First Division Team of the Year.

On his Instagram, Devitt said, “After four years at Treaty United, it’s time to say goodbye, what a journey. I will always be grateful for the opportunity and the memories.

“It was an unbelievable honour to wear this jersey and captain this club on numerous occasions. I want to say a massive thank you to Tommy, the staff, my teammates and everyone behind the scenes who made it such a special environment to walk into every day.”

The Clare native joined Treaty from Cobh Ramblers in January 2022 and went on to make 155 appearances for the club.

“Leaving was not an easy decision,” he told his Instagram followers. “It never is when a place feels like home but it’s time for the next challenge.

“I wish nothing but the best and I hope our paths cross again in the future.”

Devitt’s departure is confirmation of a rumour that’s been swirling around amongst Treaty fans for quite some time. He served as the team’s fulcrum all season, and the fans and his teammates will sorely miss him.

As silly season of the transfer window arrives, many out-of-contract stars may depart the club. Devitt might just be the first chip to fall.

After their heartbreaking 1-0 defeat against Bray Wanderers in the First Division playoff final, coupled with the recent stepping down of Ciara McCormack as CEO, it’s sure to be a difficult offseason filled with uncertainty for Treaty fans.
