Munster Rugby senior coach Mike Prendergast will leave the province at the end of the season, the club have confirmed in a statement.
Prendergast returned to the province in 2022 following a 10-year spell in France, with Racing 92, Stade Français, Oyonnax and Grenoble.
A URC league title was achieved in his first season back with Munster, defeating Leinster and Stormers on their way to glory. A top-of-the-table finish came in the following season, with Munster falling in the semi-final to eventual champions Glasgow Warriors.
In the statement, Munster Rugby said that they were ‘dissapointed’ to see Prendergast’s decision to depart, but wished him and his family the best for the future.
Prendergast said that he and his family have loved their time with Munster and it has been an incredible honour.
“I’ve been in lots of different environments coaching and playing over the years but Munster will always hold a special place in my heart and it has been a really enjoyable four years. “Working with the players and coaches has been an absolute pleasure but I believe now is the right time for a new challenge.”
The Irish Independent revealed yesterday that Prendergast is linked with a head coach role with English champions Bath, with Munster set for a coaching reshuffle.
Munster return to URC action this weekend where they welcome Zebre to Thomond Park this Saturday evening at 17:30.
