Munster GAA have postponed plans to seed next year’s Munster Senior Football Championship. The change would have seen Kerry and Cork seeded on opposite sides of the provincial semi-finals.

First reported by the Irish Examiner, the decision will come as welcome news to the Limerick Senior Footballers. Jimmy Lee and players had expressed their disappointment at the county board’s initial vote in favour of the proposal.

The seedings were based on the highest National League positions from the previous year. Kerry won their 24th Division 1 title back in March, while Cork placed fifth in Division 2. The postponement will now see a repeat of the decade-long format that has been in use. The previous year’s finalists (Winners Kerry and runners-up Clare) will receive a bye to the semi-finals.

It was a year to look back on fondly for the Limerick Senior Footballers, which kicked off with winning Division 4 of the National League. An outstanding run in the Tailteann Cup saw them defeated by just two points against Kildare in the decider.

Their impressive run in the competition saw them rewarded with four places in this year’s Tailteann Cup Team of the Year. Josh Ryan, Iain Corbett, James Naughton, and Danny Neville all received the nod.

Cork defeated Limerick in this year’s Munster campaign at the quarter final stage. The county’s only taste of glory in the Munster SFC came way back in 1896 while their last appearance in a final was in 2022, falling to Kerry in Fitzgerald Stadium.

The provincial football championships draw are set to take place on Thursday, November 27 at Croke Park.
