Limerick Celtics, Limerick Sport Eagles and Limerick Sport Huskies all enjoyed victories this weekend in the National League as they prepare to enter the Christmas period.

In the Men’s Super League, Celtics finally had a game go their way after a recent rough patch in form. They had a comfortable 90-72 victory over UCC Demons in UL Arena on Sunday. Eoghan Donaghy had a big bounce back game after a scoreless game last weekend by hitting eight points in the first quarter on the way to his 15 points in 16 minutes for Celtics. A 31-11 third quarter really hammered home their dominance against the Super League champions, who have really struggled this year. The win leaves Celtics at 3-6 on the season in 10th.

Limerick Celtics Women got their season back on track with a 67-61 win over Dublin Raiders on Saturday. Celtic’s two pro’s Sidney Richards and Katie Richards combined for 25 points and 12 rebounds together. Jordan Hehir’s side were dealt an early blow when Katie Black had to be helped off the court in the first quarter where she had five points in four minutes. After a strong first half that saw them go in at the break ahead by nine points, a nine-point third quarter threatened to derail the positive showing. Yet, Limerick showed strong resolve to bounce back in the final quarter and take home their fourth victory win of the season. The win has Celtics level with Limerick Sport Huskies and just one win away from the league leaders Cleveland Rockets.

For Huskies, Shelby Harmeyer continued a strong start to her second Division One with 26 points accompanied by a double-double from Clara Gomez as they defeated then-league leaders Templeogue 84-71. Huskies managed to get in front after a strong first quarter from Templeogue. They managed to create an 18-point lead in the fourth quarter as Huskies now stay level with fellow Treaty side Celtics in the top four of the table.

An inspired 31-point performance from Alex Carlisle and Ryan Leonard’s second double-double of the season handed Limerick Sport Eagles an 84-75 victory. Drogheda had their own starring performances with Vernon Jackson having his sixth game of the season where he scores at least 25 points by adding another 27. David Oputa had a 12-point, 14-rebound double-double and former Celtic player Chima Obikwelu added another 12 for the Louth side. The win for Eagles moves them level with Drogheda at 6-3 for the National League season.
