It is a proud day for Ireland as Jessie Buckley is now the first Irish woman to win ‘Best Actress’ at the Oscars.
Hamnet received eight Oscar nominations, but Buckley was the only winner.
Buckley captivated audiences with her role as Agnes in Hamnet and has had a tremendous run this awards season.
The actress has also won a Golden Globe, the Critics’ Choice Award, the Actor Award and the BAFTA Film Award.
The Killarney native gave an emotional acceptance speech saying, “this is really something.”
Buckley paid tribute to her fellow nominees as well as her Hamnet co-stars and colleagues.
She continued saying, “my family, my Irish family, they’re all here. Ireland bought them flights.”
“Mum, Dad, thank you for teaching us to dream and to never be defined by expectation but to carve from your own passion.”
She gave special thanks to her husband Fred and daughter Isla.
“You, Fred, I love you man. I love you, you’re the most incredible dad, you’re my best friend, and I want to have 20,000 more babies with you.
“And Isla, my little girl, who is eight months, who has absolutely no idea what’s going on and is probably dreaming of milk, but this is kind of a big deal.
“And I love you and I love being your mom and I can’t wait to discover life beside you.”
Her win took place on Mother’s Day, prompting her to dedicate the award to “the beautiful chaos of a mother’s heart.”
Buckley took to the red carpet alongside ‘Best Actor’ recipient Michael B. Jordan.

Jordan was nominated for his outstanding performance as twin brothers Elijah and Elias Moore in Sinners.
He thanked his supporters and promised to “keep stepping up and being the best version of myself I can be.”
