Castletroy College will open its doors to students, parents, and members of the wider Limerick community on Saturday, February 7, for a Careers Day aimed at showcasing the wide range of education and employment pathways available to young people.
Running from 10am to 1pm, the event aims to highlight many paths to success for young people in today’s workforce. Showcasing alternatives to the traditional university route, alongside third-level options, apprenticeships, earn-and-learn programmes and careers across engineering, healthcare and public service.
The Careers Day is primarily aimed at Transition Year, Fifth Year and Leaving Certificate students, offering practical insight into life after school and the many routes into the modern workforce.
Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, this year’s programme will feature more than 23 exhibitors from industries such as education and the public sector. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with employers, training providers and higher education institutions representing sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, finance, aviation, engineering, technology, construction and public service.
Among the exhibitors confirmed for the day are Johnson & Johnson, Cook Medical, EI Electronics, Shortts Stainless Steel, ESB, Ryanair, Analog Devices, An Garda Síochána, BDO, Edward Lifesciences, University Hospital Limerick Maternity Services and Irish Rail.
Several higher education institutions will also be represented, including the University of Limerick (UL), Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), Mary Immaculate College, University of Galway, University College Cork and Shannon Hotel School of Management.
Five panel discussions will take place throughout the day, featuring industry leaders speaking on Finance, Engineering, Technology, Women in STEM, and Earn & Learn pathways. These sessions will give students the chance to hear first-hand from professionals about real-world career journeys and the routes they took into their chosen fields.
The event will also provide an opportunity for visitors to meet some of Castletroy College’s young innovators. Five student teams from the school recently participated in the Stripe Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition, sponsored by John and Patrick Collison, both past pupils of Castletroy College.
A popular attraction from last year, ‘Spot’ the Robot, will return again this year, offering attendees a hands-on opportunity to experience artificial intelligence in action.
Castletroy College Principal Brian O’Donoghue said the event reflects the strong community spirit within the school and the commitment of local and regional partners to supporting young people as they plan their futures.
“We were thrilled with the success of last year’s event and are deeply grateful to our Parents and Guardians Association, and in particular its chairperson Louise Platt, for the tremendous work she has put into leading this year’s Careers Day.
“We have a strong community spirit in our school, and we are delighted that so many local and regional stakeholders have once again come on board to support this valuable opportunity for our students and for young people living in the wider area.”
Parents and students interested in attending the Career’s Day, or seeking further information, are encouraged to contact Castletroy College directly via the school office on 061-335700 or by email at admin@castletroycollege.ie
