It was a disappointing weekend for Limerick sides in the National League, with the Sport Huskies the only victors out of the four teams.
In fact, the Limerick Sport Huskies have leapfrogged Limerick Celtics into second in the Domino’s Women’s Division One table after a 14-point victory over University of Galway Mystics.
The 76-62 win for Huskies was their third of the season through Shelby Harmeyer’s second straight 29-point game performance. It came along with 12 points and 18 rebounds from Clara Gomez. Huskies took the lead inside the opening minute of the game and never surrendered it for the remainder. Huskies led by as much as 21 points in the fourth quarter. They now prepare to face league leaders Templeogue in three weeks time.
Elsewhere in the Women’s, Limerick Celtics were upset by the 1-3 Moy Tolka Rovers as they now slip to third. 20 points and 11 rebounds from Katie Black and 10 points with 6 boards from Katie Richards weren’t enough as the Celtics’ offence appeared stagnant at times. The side shot 6-30 from three-point range for the game.
In a game where the lead changed hands on six separate occasions and tied on seven, Celtics will feel it is a poor game to drop with their aspirations for the season. Celtics are now 3-2 and in third, just behind Limerick Sport Huskies.
Over to the men’s, Celtics were left equally disappointed as they suffered a 99-80 loss to Killester at Oblate Hall. For the first time this season, A.J Williams did not lead the scoring with Ruairi Cronin dropping 15 through five three’s. Celtics led after the first quarter, but a rough 27-11 second quarter saw them go in at half-time eight behind.
They rallied in the third to cut the deficit to four. However, a 10-point final quarter showed their offensive struggles as Killester would eventually run away with the win. The loss leaves the newly-promoted Celtics at 2-4 in the Domino’s Men’s Super League in eighth position.

In the Men’s Division One, Limerick Sport Eagles tasted an 88-74 defeat to the undefeated ND Audit Portlaoise Panthers. Yet again, it was Ryan Leonard leading the way for Eagles with 24 points. He is now in the top five in points per game throughout the division with a 23.2 average. Eagles will feel it was left behind in a game where they led on five separate occasions against the now 6-0 Panthers.
Both teams led by double digits at a point, but a nine-point final quarter saw Eagles lose their grip. Eagles are still in a relatively positive spot with a 4-2 record in fifth position. However, they are also level with Dublin Lions in third. A victory when they host SPK Utility Trust Lakers in two weeks could see them back gunning for first position.
