A young Limerick mother who was brutally assaulted on a busy roadside two weeks ago will be laid to rest on Friday.

Scarlett Faulkner (29) died in University Hospital Cork on Monday where she had been on life support following an assault, which took place in broad day light on March 21 last near the village of Birdhill, County Tipperary.

The young mother who was a member of the Traveller community from Long Pavement in Limerick city is survived by her young daughter.

Her removal will take place at Cross’s funeral home in Limerick city, on Thursday, April 16 from 2pm to 4pm. Burial will take place at Meelick Cemetery, County Clare on Friday following 11am  in St Munchin’s Church.

A balloon release in tribute to the young mother called ‘A dedication for Scarlett’ has been organised by the Faulkner family.

It will take place at her home today at 5pm. The family has requested purple, lilac, gold, and pink balloons.

The young mother’s family has thanked the community for their well-wishes and prayers and her sister Victoria writing on Facebook invited people to join in the balloon ceremony on Wednesday.

“Balloons getting left off today at five o clock, everyone more than welcome, Purple and gold.”

In another social media post, Scarlett’s sister has promised to look after her young daughter, Oceanna.

“I’ll cherish our memories forever, my last hug and kiss of you, I promise you sister I’ll bring Oceanna to see you every day.”

In a Facebook post, her older brother, Thomas Faulkner, said “My beautiful baby sister, my heart is broken into a million pieces”.

Following the attack, which is alleged to have been carried out with iron bar, Ms Faulkner was rushed to University Hospital Limerick.

She was later airlifted to Cork University Hospital and put on life support due to the extent of her injuries.

Two suspects, a 40-year-old woman and a teenage girl who cannot be named, have been charged in connection with the attack.

The 40-year-old woman is facing four charges, including violent disorder, reckless endangerment, and two counts of burglary. The 16-year-old girl is charged with one count of assault causing serious harm.
