Exam season is fast approaching for students at UL, with exams beginning on Tuesday, May 5 and concluding on Monday, May 18.

Ahead of crunch time, Limerick Voice asked students how they’re feeling ahead of their end of year assessments.

“It’s kind of hard to prepare at the minute because I still have a load of assignments to do, so it’s a bit hard to balance the study. It’s getting to the point where everyone is locked in the library, busy away,” third-year engineering student John Hogan said.

It’s important for students to take care of their mental health and take breaks while studying.

“I like to forget about everything to do with college by watching some sports, playing a few computer games or listening to some music,” John added.

“I’m quite stressed out, I’m not going to lie,” admitted Barry, a  final-year risk and insurance student.

“There’s four (exams) all on top of each other, so then you can’t go to the pub anymore either. I’m spending most of my time in the library now.

“To decompress, I meet my friends or go for a run.”

International students are also feeling the pressure.

“I think all the final projects make it stressful,” Kimberly, a visiting marketing student believes.

“I personally like to hang out with friends. That helps me get my mind off it.”

Working together helps nursing students Ella Daly, Ava Lacey and Lauren Murphy to stay focused.

“Booking a room in the library helps with motivation” Ava shared. “We all help each other” Ella added.

However, not everyone is feeling the pressure.

“I’m not stressed out yet, but I know I will be soon,” Fourth-year PE and English student Kayla D’Arcy claimed.

“I’ve never done an exam in UL before. This is my first one, but I’m well ahead of my work. Coffee gets me through!”
