Big plans for Limerick FC heading into 2026

Limerick FC are set to enter a 'new era'.

There is exciting news for Limerick football fans as Limerick FC has announced big plans for 2026. The club are looking to build a “stable, sustainable, and successful” senior League of Ireland club.

Earlier this month, they confirmed their participation in the MU15 and MU17 National League. Following discussions with the FAI, the club will also be submitting applications in spring 2026 for MU14 and MU20 participation in 2027.

These plans mark the next step in the phased restoration of the player pathway as they look ahead to the club’s centenary in 2037.  They already have three coaches for their MU15 for the 2026 National League season.

Alex O’Donoghue, an experienced coach with over a decade of experience, has joined the coaching team. He is currently head coach at Premier League side Regional United, recently winning the Tuohy Cup and reaching the Lawson Cup final. Alex previously spent several seasons with Aisling Annacotty, involved in the development of underage teams that reached national finals.

Jason O’Connor is a former Republic of Ireland Schoolboy International, playing professionally with both Peterborough United and Limerick FC. He joins the setup having worked as an FAI Development Officer for Limerick for over 13 years.

Alasdair MacInnes joins as a goalkeeping coach. MacInnes has worked in the Limerick Desmond League, serving as goalkeeper coach for the Kennedy Cup winning side.

Finally, Mike Aherne has been appointed manager of Carew Limerick United, the LDL A team. Mike is a former League of Ireland player with Limerick FC, a former FAI Junior Cup winner with Pike Rovers, and spent three years on the board of Treaty United

In a post on their Facebook, the club stated that supporters will be able to input new club crest designs, club colours, and become co-owners over the coming weeks.
